Is Viquis 3D really free?
Yes. Opening the 17 formats, rotating, viewing parts, measuring distances and coordinates, creating text, QR codes and lithophanes and viewing G-code are free, with no time limit and no sign-up. Pro adds the analysis, printing and document tools.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. They are opened and processed on your computer, in the online version too. The only thing that leaves is the licence key, when you activate Pro.
Which formats does it open?
STEP, IGES, BREP, glTF, GLB, STL, OBJ, 3MF, PLY, DAE, AMF, VRML, VTK/VTP, OFF, PCD, XYZ and G-code. SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor and other closed formats don't open: export them to STEP or STL.
Does it work on a Mac, on Linux or on a phone?
The online version works on any system with an up-to-date browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari 16.4+). On a phone it opens and rotates small models; the heavy tools are for computers. The desktop version is for Windows 10 and 11 only.
What's the difference between the online and the desktop version?
The features are the same. The desktop version opens files with a double-click in Windows and works offline. The online version opens on any computer, with nothing to install.
How do I activate Pro?
After buying, your key is in the store's customer portal (you sign in with your purchase email and a code sent by email). In the app, click Pro, paste the key and press Activate. It needs the internet once; after that it lasts up to 35 days offline.
Can I cancel the monthly plan?
Yes, whenever you like. Pro keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
Can I use the same key on two computers?
Pro Desktop is for 1 computer. Pro Complete covers the online and the desktop version. If you need more, write to us.
How big a file can it handle?
STEP comfortably up to about 60 MB; meshes (STL, GLB, 3MF) up to hundreds of MB; absolute maximum 1.5 GB. It depends on your computer's memory: see requirements and limits.
Are the measurements exact?
They are taken on the 3D mesh. On a STEP read at good quality they are very close to the real geometry; on a coarse STL a hole is a polygon and the Ø is that of the polygon.
Why does Windows show a warning when installing?
The installer doesn't have a paid digital signature yet. Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”: click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
Will there be ads or a required sign-up?
It's not in the plans. The free version stays sign-up free.
Common problems in the app
- “The 3D engine could not start”: the browser or the computer does not support WebGL. Try an up-to-date Chrome, Edge or Firefox and check that graphics acceleration is on.
- The file does not open / “out of memory”: export as GLB, 3MF or binary STL at the source, or reduce the geometry.
- The part looks tiny or huge: the file is in another unit. Change the “file unit” or use Scale.
- Odd mass or volume: the mesh may be open. Use Repair mesh and calculate again.
- The video comes out short and choppy: the window was hidden during recording. Keep it visible.
- A button is asking for Pro: functions with the orange dot need a licence key.
