Requirements and limits.
Before you buy, it's worth knowing what to expect. Here is what your computer needs and what Viquis 3D doesn't do well yet.
The minimums are estimates: Viquis 3D was tested on a powerful laptop (Intel Core Ultra 9, 23 GB of memory, NVIDIA RTX 4060). Try the free version with your own files before buying.
| Minimum | Recommended | Ideal | |
|---|---|---|---|
| System (installed version) | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit | Windows 11, 64-bit | Windows 11, 64-bit, up to date |
| Browser (online version) | Current Chrome, Edge or Firefox, or Safari 16.4 or newer, with graphics acceleration (WebGL 2) turned on | Current Chrome or Edge (only in these does the video come out as MP4; in the others it is WebM) | Chrome or Edge, always on the latest version, with graphics acceleration turned on |
| Memory (RAM) | see the file size table below | see the file size table below | 32 GB or more (large CAD assemblies and STEP files of hundreds of MB) |
| Graphics card | integrated with WebGL 2 (Intel UHD, integrated AMD Radeon, Apple) | dedicated (NVIDIA or AMD) for models with millions of triangles | dedicated and recent (NVIDIA or AMD), with plenty of video memory |
| Processor | 4 cores | 8 cores or more (STEP, holes, thickness and batch use the processor heavily) | 12 cores or more, fast ones |
| Disk (installed version) | about 400 MB free | SSD | NVMe SSD |
| Screen | 1280 × 720 | 1920 × 1080 or more | 2560 × 1440 or more |
| Phone and tablet | open and rotate small models; the heavy tools are meant for a computer | — | — |
Maximum file size (estimate)
| 8 GB of RAM (minimum) | 16 GB of RAM (recommended) | 32 GB of RAM (ideal) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| STEP, IGES, BREP: online version | up to about 50 MB | 60 to 100 MB (up to 150 MB if the geometry is simple) | 100 to 150 MB (the limit is the browser, not the memory) |
| STEP, IGES, BREP: installed version (free or Pro) | 150 to 200 MB | up to about 900 MB | up to 1.5 GB (the app maximum) |
| Binary meshes (STL, 3MF, GLB, PLY): online and installed | about 300 MB | 500 MB to 1 GB | up to 1.5 GB (the app maximum) |
| Text formats (OBJ, text STL, DAE, VRML, G-code): online and installed | about 200 MB | 300 to 500 MB | about 500 MB (the limit is the browser text engine) |
| Point clouds (PCD, XYZ): online and installed | about 300 MB | about 500 MB | 500 MB to 1 GB |
The free version and Pro open exactly the same sizes: Pro does not change these limits. If the file is larger than the table shows, it may take a very long time, or the app warns that it ran out of memory; export only the parts you need, or export as STL or 3MF.
Known limits
- STEP, IGES and BREP, online version: open comfortably up to about 60 MB; a STEP of about 900 MB does not open (export only the parts you need, or export as STL or 3MF); the progress bar is an estimate. Installed version: above 150 MB (or if the browser's reader fails) the app uses its own, more powerful reader: a STEP of about 900 MB opens in 8 to 9 minutes, with a real progress bar and a cancel button. A file like that needs about 6 GB of free memory (allow 6 to 7 times the file size); on an 8 GB computer, STEP files of several hundred MB still do not open. Above 300 MB the app warns you straight away that it may take a while.
- Meshes (STL, OBJ, 3MF, GLB…): handle hundreds of MB. The maximum file is 1.5 GB.
- Proprietary formats (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, NX, Creo, Parasolid, JT, DWG/DXF, FBX, SketchUp, Rhino…) do not open: export to STEP, glTF or STL from the program where you made them.
- Measurements: are made on the mesh, not on the exact STEP geometry. On a coarse STL, the Ø of a hole is that of the polygon.
- Holes: only cylinders are recognised; countersunk holes, modelled threads and slots may not show up correctly.
- Volume and mass: are only exact for closed meshes (the app flags open ones).
- Print cost and quote: are estimates with reference values; enter your own rates.
- Heavy tools (holes, thickness, compare, split): slow on models with millions of triangles.
- Activating Pro: needs internet once (to paste the key from the store's customer portal); after that it works for up to 35 days without internet and confirms again by itself.
- Video: is recorded in real time; if the window is hidden, it comes out short and choppy.
- HTML client package: above about 40 MB it is heavy for email.
- Installed version: Windows only (no macOS or Linux for now).
- Typed commands: understand the words planned for each action, not free-form sentences like an assistant.
